United States of America wins Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup

Showjumping | International Showjumping - CSI 1* YH - CSIO 5* Gijón | WED30JUL-MON04AUG | Las Mestas | It is the first time at the International Official Jumping Show Gijón 5* 2014 that the USA team wins the Furusiyya-FEI Nations Cup at Las Mestas Sports Complex. The American team finished the class with only 8 penalties, followed by Switzerland and Great Britain with 13 and 15 penalties. The team, composed by three women and a man, leadered the class from the first round. They got their first triumph in Gijón after twenty years celebrating the Nations Cup here

The members of the team were Ashlee Bond and ‘Chela LS’; Catherine Pasmore and ‘Bonanza van Paemel’; Quentin Judge and ‘HH Copin van de Broy’; and Georgina Bloomberg and ‘Juvina’.

This class counts toward Longines FEI ranking and classifies the riders for next Monday’s Grand Prix. The nineth class was under Table A, not against the clock with a time allowed in both rounds. The course had twelve obstacles at a maximun height of 1.60 metres and fifteen efforts. Four riders of each team participate on the first rider and the worst penalties result is not taken into account.

The Furusiyya-FEI Nations Cup was leadererd by the United States of America at the end of the first round with 4 penalties, followed by Spain with 9 and Switzerland with 9. The remaining teams were Italy (20 penalties), Great Britain (13 penalties), Belgium (17 penalties), France (20 penalties) and Norway (22 penalties). Moreover, France retired from the class and did not take part in the second round, together with Germany (23 penalties), Qatar (23 penalties) and Argentina (24 penalties).

On the second round, the course had seven fences. Las Mestas was really crowded despite of the rain. The order of starting in the second round was opposite to the classification of the first round. The fourth place was for Spain (16 penalties), the fifth for Italy (18 penalties) and the sixth for Belgium (27 penalties).

After the prize givin ceremony, a press conference took place. There were the riders Ashlee Bond, Catherine Pasmore, Quentin Judge and Georgina Bloomberg and also their chef d’equipe, Diann Langer; as well as the international judge, Mister Alfred Boll; the course designer, Mister Avelino Rodríguez Miravalles and the event director, Mister Roberto Fernández Álvarez.
