Samuel Parot wins the Speed Final

Showjumping | International Showjumping - CSI 1* YH - CSIO 5* Gijón | WED30JUL-MON04AUG | Las Mestas | The tenth class of the International Official Equestrian Jumping Show Gijón 5* 2014 was for the Chilean rider Samuel Partot, on the horseback of ‘Sensation 21’. He recorded 65.20 seconds, adding his third victory at this show.
Three seconds later arrived the Dutch, Leon Thijsen and ‘Bulavsco’ (68.16 seconds); followed by Abdullah Alsharbatly from Saudi Arabia and his mare ‘Andrea’ (68.25 seconds).

This class, sponsored by Massimo Dutti, would count toward Longines FEI ranking. The twenty eight riders best placed in the whole of the classes took part on it as two riders had previously retired. Despite the hazardous weather conditions all the afternoon long, about 4,986 people attended to Las Mestas to enjoy the sports show.

The speed final was against the clock, it had thirteen fences at a maximun height of 1.45 metres and fifteen efforts. Only fifteen riders made clear rounds.

Parot’s triumph

It was his third victory on consecutive days, the same as the first day with ‘Sensation 21’. He finished the round 3 seconds before than other riders. About this horse he commented that “it rides very good at gallop so it does not spend time on the air, it was perfect”.

Next Monday on the Grand Prix, the Chilean will be competing with ‘Quick du Pottier’ and they will try to access to the jump off.

At the prize giving ceremony, in addition to Parot, Thijssen and Alsharbatly, the Venezuelan Andrés Rodríguez and his mare ‘Fifty fifty 111’ were on the fourth position and the rider Luis Pedro Biraben, from Argentina, and his mare ‘Abunola’ were on the fifth

Tryp Rey Pelayo Hotel Award for Gerardo Menéndez Mieres

The best placed national rider on this speed final was Gerardo Menéndez Mieres, from Avilés, with his horse ‘Crespo’. He was classified on the fourteenth place.

Triple combination

Only one person won the most important bet of the day, a total amount of 8,172 €. The initial fund for today is 1,200€.
