The swiss rider Niklaus Rutschi reaches the success in Gijón

Showjumping | International Showjumping - CSI 1* YH - CSIO 5* Gijón | WED30JUL-MON04AUG | Las Mestas | The CSIO Gijón 5* 2014 already has a winner for the Grand Prix, the rider Niklaus Rutschi, with his horse 'Windsor XV'. The Swiss got the victory with a time of 53,23 seconds in the second round and without any penalty
With his performance he beat the American rider Ashlee Bond with his mare 'Chela LS' that got a time of 53,79 seconds, and the third place was for the French rider Kevin Staut and his mare 'Estoy Aquí de Muze HDC' with a time of 55,04 seconds.

This fifteenth class, sponsored by Banco Sabadell Herrero, has closed this edition of the Show and counted with 9.962 spectators in this sunny 4th of August. The course, qualifier for Longines Rankings and for the European Championships 2015, was judged with the Table A with two rounds without jump – off, constituted by 13 obstacles with a height of 1,60 metres and 16 efforts. The 25% of the 45 riders in the first round (12 participants) got into the second round, constituted by the first ten obstacles.

The twelve riders qualified for the second round completed the course of the first round with no tear downs and in the second round five were the ones who ended with any penalty. Everyone of them got into the second round with the same options to get the triumph. Finally was the swiss rider, Niklaus Rutschi, the number 171th on Longines Rankings, who got the success.

The ten first qualified were present at the prize giving ceremony in the Grand Prix of the CSIO 5* Gijón 2014.

Addittional Trophies

  • 'Longines' Trophy to the best qualified rider in all the classes of the Show was for the Dutch rider Leon Thijssen.
  • 'Diario El Comercio' Trophy to Santiago Núñez Riva for being the Spanish rider best qualified in all the classes of the Show.
  • 'El Gaitero' Trophy to the best national rider in the Grand Prix for Sergio Álvarez Moya.
